Reapers

On the seventh day, God rested, and in so doing called forth the Angels of Rest, the Halaku. Charged with the bringing of death and the endings of things, the Reapers made creation finite.

Slayers

When Xariel and many of his fellow Halaku rebelled, God cursed them to bring death to Man as well as plants and animals. At the same time, God revealed the true nature of death, and the place to which human souls pass- but not to the rebels.

Comment by Russell:
The issue of where humans go after death comes up again and again in the series. There are a few highlights for me, though. The ghost in the alley in Another Day in Paradise, the opening flashback in Little Earthquakes, and the deathbed scene in Wicked Game come to mind.
