Dustech

Control over this future technology is a key plot point throughout the game. In "Tempus: Dustbunnies," Dustech is relatively intelligent, but limited in power. In Gotham Nights, I combined it with Virtual Animism (from Wyrd-Fu) and made it powerful enough to reshape an entire city.

Here's how it works: There are these mirrorshades that only work for people of German descent. (They were created by Nazis and keyed to certain genetic markers.) Wearers can take advantage of night-vision, telescopy, and Heads-Up Displays that detect weapons, electricity, heat, or just about anything else you like.

They also interface with Dustech control programs via "holographic" characters. When the SCV is in control, these are gnomes, sprites, soldiers, and other fanciful figures. Someone wearing the shades can control Dustech, and anything the Dustech has taken over, simply by talking to these characters.

When a non-German puts them on, the cyberspecs go completely opaque. This is a great excuse to give the shades to a specific PC, probably the one who doesn't get to play with Hoodoo or Lycanthropy. Both the Dustech and the mirrorshades are introduced in mission three: Change Places!
