The Third Column

Long before the rise of the Nazi party, The Thule Society was hard at work, scouring the globe for the keys to arcane power. Most of the time, that meant cracking open Egyptian tombs or exploring the mysteries of the Far East. In at least one instance, it meant sending a lone operative to American shores.

She calls herself Mary Miller and the only thing she's studied harder than looking and sounding American is magic. She's a scholar, not a mystic, and her mission is to gather information, not take direct action herself. Her weapons of choice are guile and misdirection.

Her bodyguard is a Black Dragon and master of Non-Euclidean Geomancy. (See Wyrd-Fu, but it's basically an excuse for wire-fu stunts, vanishing into thin air, and manipulating people's chi.) When someone sees to much, the Black Dragon finds a way to ensure their silence.

Mary Miller's estate near Gotham Park often plays host to Thule agents with more specific, and less covert, agendas. For example, a mutant Nazi Superman from the future is in town looking for some advanced technology that the society has misplaced. (See Tempus, specifically Chapter 13; he's a super-strong, super-smart, mostly bullet-proof mutant from a future where the Nazis won WWII.)

Any investigation into Mary Miller will turn up only that she's a trust fund baby who recently moved to Gotham from the Midwest. No living relatives, no educational record, no employment history. Her parents, according to a news story that was planted in a local paper, died in a car accident and left her their fortune. They truth can be anything you wish, as long as it involves a top rate education in archeology and the occult.

Oh, and she learned some psychic surgery from Hindu mystics in India. She can teleport small objects into your major organs or pull your heart out of your chest without leaving a wound... while it's still beating.

One of those advanced technologies is a dusty mass of microscopic robots that can band together to form... just about anything. (See Tempus: Dustbunnies.) Once it gets into the Third Column's hands, they'll program it to fight like a man.
