The City

The City is vast, cyclopean, nameless. No matter how long you live there, there's another alley, another district, another horror. The streets wind through crumbling tenements, soaring towers, past neon-blasted markets and clubs, along waterways sewage-choked or pristine.

If the city is still there in the daylight, London and Frankie have never seen it. To them, it's a labyrinth, a wilderness, a sprawling and endless nighttime world of wonders and horrors.

Comment by Russell:
In not so many words, then, it's the archetypal city you see in movies like Dark City, The Crow, Underworld, Blade, Batman, Sin City or a hundred others. Sometimes it pretends to be Detroit or Chicago or Gotham, but really it's just the dream of a city.

Pretentious? Oh, yeah. Being overwrought is half the fun.
