Personally, I'm not against new mechanics, but I don't much like changing the core resolution system. Stuff like Setbacks are cool, but I don't feel great about changing how dice are acquired or otherwise complicating combat.

[i]Biting Danger![/i], a Wushu game that Jeff and I are currently hashing out on RPGnet, concentrates the majority of the mechanics in two places:

1. Character creation. [i]Biting Danger![/i] uses a character creation system that's more structured than regular Wushu.
2. Regaining Chi. Chi (now "Vitality") is now a sort of a sub-game. You narrate scenes with your character's Contacts to regain Chi, but try not to destroy the relationship by feeding too hard.

It'll probably incorporate a version of the Setback mechanic as well, though the jury's still out on that.
